About the Founder
Hi, I'm Dezirae. I was born and raised in New Jersey, which means I don't sugarcoat. I shoot from the hip, and I do it with love.
My path here wasn't a straight line. I started out in Colorado and taught high school students with emotional and behavioral challenges. While I was teaching, I saw how many people struggle with emotional issues, and I found I was able to help. Becoming a therapist became a clear decision. When I moved to Georgia, I went back for my master's in mental health counseling.
I interned at the Gwinnett County Detention Center, then spent years in community based work with DFCS, foster kids and foster parents, students in schools, and adults across the community. From there I moved into substance abuse treatment, working in inpatient rehab with clients facing every kind of addiction. In 2022, I opened my own practice, Healthy Minds for Healthy Homes.
All of that taught me one thing. Progress doesn't happen in the therapy room. It happens in your life, between sessions, when you actually use the tools. Our job is to listen, tell you the truth, hand you those tools, and hold you to using them. When something isn't working, we don't just keep doing it. We figure out why, and we try something different.
